Pattern formation and communication in biological systems

Cells that form cell population respectively cell colonies, have to communicate with each other. Thereby the cells use different mechanisms of intercellular communication depending on the type of the cell and the prevailing conditions. On the basis of yeast cells we are doing research on the dynamical behaviour of a single yeast cell and of whole cell population. The investigation of transition from the individual to the collective cellular behaviour is of particular interest because this transition leads to that the cells are organizing themselves to a population. A further aspect that we are focusing on is the mechanism of the spread of information in spatial cell populations.
